Wear and float: why the same skin has five prices
Every CS2 weapon skin carries a hidden number between 0 and 1 called the float. The lower it is, the cleaner the skin looks. The float decides which of five wear tiers the item falls into:
| Wear | Float range |
|---|---|
| Factory New | 0.00 - 0.07 |
| Minimal Wear | 0.07 - 0.15 |
| Field-Tested | 0.15 - 0.38 |
| Well-Worn | 0.38 - 0.45 |
| Battle-Scarred | 0.45 - 1.00 |
Why prices differ so much
Clean versions are rarer and look better in game, so a Factory New skin can cost many times more than the same skin in Field-Tested. Some skins only exist in part of the range: the item page shows its minimum and maximum float.
Which one to pick
Field-Tested is often the best value: from a normal viewing distance it looks close to Minimal Wear at a fraction of the price. If you look at your weapon up close a lot, Minimal Wear or better is worth it.
